Pennsylvania State University, more commonly known as “Penn State,” is the one of the largest public research universities in the United States. Founded in 1855, Penn State’s main campus is located in the town of University Park, with 20 other locations across Pennsylvania. Many notable alumni have pursued successful careers in politics, film, and sports.

Penn State is ranked 59 in the United States. The in-state tuition rate at Penn State is $17,900 per year, plus fees; the out-of-state tuition rate is $32,382 per year, plus fees. With a 54% acceptance rate, Penn State is quite a competitive school. Nearly 40,000 undergraduate students attend, and 6,000 graduate students attend. The university provides over 275 bachelor’s degrees and over 300 graduate programs, and it follows a semester-based academic calendar.

Each Penn State campus offers a different environment and experience, but wherever they enroll, students benefit from a vibrant community in which to grow and learn. Penn State offers students over 1,000 clubs and organizations, plus the largest student-run philanthropy program in the country, which has raised nearly $200 million to support families affected by childhood cancer. Penn State is also home to the Nittany Lion Fund, a first-of-its-kind, student-run hedge fund, which gives students the opportunity to learn about investments and connect them to professional opportunities on Wall Street. At its statewide campuses, the university offers dozens of competitive sports opportunities, including NCAA Division I and III teams, club sports and intramural teams.
