The University of Denver (DU) is a private research university in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest independent private university in the Rocky Mountain Region. It embraces the West’s spirit of exploration and discovery, cultivating a hands-on, collaborative learning environment. DU established one of the first business schools in the country; programs in its Daniels College of Business are regarded as some of the best in the country. Notable alumni include former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan, and founder of the Hard Rock Cafe, Peter Morton.
DU is ranked 89 nationwide. It is a selective school, with an acceptance rate of 61%. With a total enrolment of 12,000 undergraduates and postgraduates, DU keeps its class sizes small. DU is located in a residential neighborhood, just five miles south of Denver. Students engage in over 150 clubs and organizations, participate in 55 club and intramural sports, and enjoy access to both the city of Denver and the sky-high opportunities in the Rockies. DU, as well as the city of Denver itself, offers a vibrant music scene. The university produces more than 400 arts performances per year, and the famous Red Rocks amphitheater is just 20 miles away.
