The University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass) is the flagship university of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ public university system. Founded in 1863, it is the only public land-grant university in Massachusetts, and it is the largest of its five locations (Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, and Worcester).
