Michigan State University
Michigan State University (MSU) was the first land-grant institution in the country, founded in 1855. Known for its programs in education, business, and agriculture, MSU is also home to one of the America’s only environmental journalism organizations, a solar car racing team, and a student-run organic farm. Notable alumni include actors, professional athletes, and nationally acclaimed journalists.
Ranked 87 across the country, MSU’s acceptance rate is 76%, and its graduation rate is 79%. In-state tuition is $14,914 per year, plus fees; out-of-state tuition is $40,726 per year, plus fees. Almost 50,000 total students are enrolled across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. MSU offers over 200 academic programs. It follows a semester-based academic calendar.
MSU’s 5,192-acre campus is set in a suburban environment. Home to one of the largest single-campus residence halls, MSU students enjoy on-campus living and many opportunities to build cohesive communities. Students participate in more than 900 clubs and organizations, including over 60 fraternities and sororities. Plus, MSU offers over 275 study abroad programs. For fun, students cheer on their Spartans, who compete in the Big Ten Conference. Off campus, students have easy access to East Lansing’s culture and entertainment, as well as ski slopes and the beaches of the Great Lakes.
