The University of Michigan is a public research university in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Founded in 1817, before Michigan was even a state, the university is Michigan’s oldest. Known for its programs in engineering, computer science, and business, the university is considered a place of academic excellence and vigor. Notable alumni include neurosurgeon and CNN correspondent Sanjay Gupta, award-winning actor and singer Darren Criss, and automobile engineer, inventor and executive John DeLorean.

In-state tuition is $15,984 per year, plus fees; its out-of-state tuition is $52,266 per year, plus fees. The university offers over 200 undergraduate majors and nearly 200 postgraduate programs. Ann Arbor provides an active arts and music culture, with plenty of restaurants, parks, and events throughout the year. Students actively engage in more than 1,500 clubs and organizations, plus 31 club sports teams. The Michigan Wolverines are made up of 29 teams who compete in the NCAA Big Ten Conference.
