Although the Illinois Institute of Technology was officially founded in 1940, its roots trace back to the 1890s when the Armor Institute of Technology and the Lewis Institute were founded. The Institute now has five campuses within the Chicago area with more than 8,000 total students.

The school is a private university focused on technology and innovation. It attracts students who are curious about technology and the unknown and are driven by that curiosity and their own ambition.
