UD’s campus is set in a friendly, historic college town. The university itself offers over 400 student clubs and organizations, and 20% of students participate in UD’s 40 sororities and fraternities. UD is home to the country’s first study abroad program. One-third of students participate in this program every year. The university’s Fightin' Blue Hens athletic teams are named in honor of a Delaware Revolutionary War battalion, and their mascot is a bird with a playful twist of a name: YoUDee. The Fightin’ Blue Hens compete in the NCAA Division I Colonial Athletic Association. Freshmen must live on campus, unless they live with a local family member. The town of Newark, while small, sits in a perfect location to launch easy and fun weekend trips. Historic and lively cities of Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, and Washington, D.C., are all less than two hours away. Plus, some of the northeast’s popular beaches and ski slopes are within a two-hour drive.
