Founded in 1834, Tulane University is a private institution located in New Orleans, Louisiana. One of the best universities in the South, it is also considered one of the nation’s top universities for research. Tulane is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, which is a select group of premier research institutions. Notable alumni include Yahoo! co-founder David Filo, philanthropist and presidential daughter Ashley Biden, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

Ranked 38 nationwide, Tulane is a very selective school. Its acceptance rate is 11%, and its graduation rate is 83%. Tulane’s undergraduate tuition is $62,844 per year, plus fees; its graduate tuition is $61,176 per year, plus fees. The university offers over 75 majors and minors. Nearly 14,000 total students are enrolled. Tulane follows a semester-based academic calendar.

Tulane is divided between the main uptown campus and a downtown campus, which is the center for health science programs. Its urban campus comprises 110 acres. In addition to eight other graduate schools, Tulane boasts a graduate school that is the only specialty school of its kind: the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Freshmen and sophomores must live on campus, with a few exceptions. Students can participate in over 200 clubs and organizations, and more than 40% of students are members of Tulane’s 24 sororities and fraternities. Tulane also promotes leadership and advancement to its female population, offering specialized symposiums, guest speakers, and mentorship. Off campus, students can explore New Orleans, nicknamed the “Big Easy.” In addition to its famous Mardi Gras celebrations, the city is known for vibrant nightlife, live music, and excellent cuisine. A melting pot of French, African and American cultures, New Orleans offers a rich, dynamic cultural experience.
